Hip to be Square

Day 3 of maths week found us looking at square numbers. We made them using peg boards, looked at the patterns of numbers involved and investigated what happens when we take numbers from square numbers.

Maths Week

2FT are really enjoying maths week! We have been trying really hard with our mental maths and we are getting quicker at answering multiplication, division, subtraction and addition sums in our heads. Today we have shown the maths badges we’ve made and talked about our favourite numbers. We have also completed a maths trail around school which involved counting the number of rectangles in the playground.IMG_1259 IMG_1258 IMG_1257 IMG_1255 IMG_1254 IMG_1253 IMG_1250

Grid References

As part of maths week, and our geography theme, we’ve been looking at maps and how we can use maths to locate places on the map. We learned about Ordnance Survey map symbols before exploring 4- and 6-figure grid references.

Getting comfy with a good read!

We had a fun time exchanging and sharing our books with each other to see what what lay beneath each colourful wrapper.  With an array of comfy cushions to relax on we spend time reading to ourselves as well as reading to each other.  Take a look for yourselves to see what a great time we had…IMG_0587 IMG_0588 IMG_0595 IMG_0597

Why do we have 2 eyes?

Today in Science we investigated why we need 2 eyes. We got into partners and one of us put a cup onto the table and slowly moved a coin above it. Our partner closed one eye and judged when the coin was over the cup and said ‘drop it!’ so the penny dropped into the cup. Then we tried with both eyes open. We found out it was much easier to do with both eyes open.

World Book Day in 2FT

What a fantastic day we have had! We started off by giving our friends clues about the book we brought in so they could decide who to swap books with. For the rest of the day we made our own books. Some of us made information books and some wrote stories. We then designed the front cover, wrote the blurb and drew illustrations inside our books.

World Book Day in Year Three

To celebrate World Book Day in Year Three, we have been taking part in lots of fun activities! We played Who Am I? with book characters, we took part in a book scavenger hunt and we even read books written in French! Tres bon!

World Book Day 2017

We had a fantastic World Book Day with lots of opportunities to read and discuss books. We found lots of books that we wouldn’t normally read and actually found they were really good and want to keep reading them!

We even did some World Book Day maths as we investigated the ISBN numbers that every book has – a real life use of mathematics to avoid computer errors.

Year 1 Don ‘t judge a book by its cover !

Today, dressed in our PJs and slippers we have had so much fun celebrating World Book Day. First we told each other what our books were about but with out revealing the titles. We chose a book that we liked the sound of. Then we unwrapped it !!

What a lovely surprise we had.

We shared our books with each other and enjoyed listening to stories too. Finally, in true bedtime fashion , we enjoyed some hot chocolate and toast.

1AP enjoying our books

1AP have really enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. We have had lots of fun swapping books with our friends in our ‘not judging a book by its cover’ theme. We gave our friends a little clue about our wrapped up books and swapped with each other. We loved opening them up and seeing the surprise book inside! This afternoon we had hot chocolate and toast and snuggled up to read some of our favourites together.
