Year 6 – Excellent attitudes to learning

Year 6, I was very proud of your excellent attitudes to your learning this week when presented with some very challenging SATs tests in English and Maths. You persevered and were determined and I know you all did your very best, whatever the outcomes. Lots of sports, music and arts events ahead so you can continue to show us what great role models you are for the LHPSN dream, believe, achieve ethos!

‘Impeccable behaviour’ at the Botanical Gardens Year 4

I was delighted to receive a letter yesterday from Birmingham Botanical Gardens praising the excellent attitudes and behaviour of our Year 4 classes on their visit last last week. Two elderly members of the public visiting the gardens also
praised our pupils manners and behaviour. Look out for their newsletter piece this week about their Glasshouse Tour and the activities they participated in to research their garden project. I’m looking forward to seeing how they transfer their learning to our environmental garden once the mobiles are removed.

Fantastic Fundraisers at LHPSN

Well done everyone for raising an amazing £705.10 for Red Nose Day Comic Relief event on Friday . School was awash with ‘red clothing’ and tasty buns!

Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team

You may have noticed the ‘model pupil’ on Old Birmingham Road this was something arranged by Councillor Peter McDonald. The models, to encourage safer driving, appear around the locality and outside other local schools. Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team have been looking at ways of improving the parking situation outside LHPSN particularly on Old Birmingham Road, by working in partnership with key stakeholders within the community including our school.

Learning with our Parents

We always welcome our parents into school to help us in many ways. Dr De La Pena has been helping Year 1 find out about their amazing bodies.  Have a look at Year 1’s page and see what they’ve been learning.

Lord of the Springs – We need your help!

We are unable to use our wonderful three-acre field due to a natural spring which leaves our field flooded for most of the year. However we have been shortlisted in the ‘Tesco Bags of Help’ initiative to win £5,000, which will allow us to install vital drainage. The Tesco scheme, in conjunction with Groundwork, sees grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – awarded to outdoor community projects. We are desperate to beat two other projects to win the top grant, as second and third place prizes will not be enough to fund a permanent solution to the issue.

Voting is open in stores until February 25, with the nearest sites including Bromsgrove Express in Marlbrook, Barnt Green Express, Rubery Metro and Frankley Express.

For more information visit tesco.com/bagsofhelp.

LHPSN Young Voices

Well done to our amazing Singing Group who went to the Genting Arena in Birmingham to perform in a choir of 6,583 people! Have a look at the photographs on the Curriculum > Music > Young Voices page to see just how much fun everyone had. Mrs Landon said everyone performed brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Thank you to everyone involved – we love our music at Lickey!

Meet the Builders

Reminder: Come and meet the builders and see what exciting projects we have planned for our school. 6-7pm Tuesday 17th January, school hall.

Appreciation

The theme for our assemblies this half term is appreciation. The new year is a good time to reflect and be thankful for what we have, for saying thank you to others for all they do for us and doing things for others to show our appreciation. Look out for the pupils of Lickey Hills being appreciative in their words and actions.
