Eggs on Mars!

Year 2 were challenged to build landers that would protect their space probe (an egg) and safely deliver it to Mars’ surface. The teams all had the same materials and they came up with a fantastic range of ideas from parachutes to gliders, protective baskets to on-board crash mats. A few probes sadly went splat (well, we thought that was quite funny, actually) and a few sustained a few cracks but most successfully landed. Everyone worked fantastically with their team to try to achieve the objective and did an amazing job.

Science Festival

Year 2 are having such a fun Science day!

We have just got back from our walk to Neptune venturing throughout our solar system visiting each planet on the way!

Noah’s Ark art

We really enjoyed reading the story of Noah’s Ark today! At the end of the story there was a beautiful rainbow which we tried to recreate. We used cotton wool to make each section and then experimented mixing colours to paint it.

Food Chains

This week Year 2 followed in Charles Darwin’s footsteps and visited the Galápagos Islands. There we looked at the different reptiles on the islands, including snakes and giant tortoises, before concentrating on marine iguanas. We learnt that these lizards swim in the sea in order to graze on sea weed and algae. However, they face danger from above in the form of the Galapagos Hawk. We had fun making volcanic rock coasts in which to display our food chains.

Reindeer food

What a magical afternoon we have had! We took it in turns to add some glitter into some oats that Santa’s reindeer will able to eat and stir it in whilst making a Christmas wish. On Christmas Eve night the moon will make it sparkle bright and as Santa’s reindeer fly and roam the oats will bring them to our home!IMG_1451[1]
