This term, Reception begin with our theme ‘Marvellous Me’ where we start to learn about ourselves and explore what makes us unique and compare similarities and differences. We will explore the artist Miki Kato and create self portraits in her style. We will also explore the season Autumn and learn about Harvest.

Our chosen key text is ‘Hello Friend’ by Rebecca Cobb, where we will explore relationships, making friends and identify how to be a good friend as well as explore different emotions. As part of black history month we will share the story ‘Anna Hibiscus’ Song’ as we learn about different families.

Primarily, we will focus on helping our children separate from their families happily and confidently and to feel safe and comfortable within Reception as they begin to become familiar with the rules and expectations and build relationships with each other through play and games.

Home Reading- All children in Reception have a clear communication folder which holds their reading diary and books. Children receive two books each week: an independent book marked with an 'I', which are books children should be confident to read without support and a supported book marked with an 'S', where there may be a few words that you may need to help your child with. Children will also choose a class library book each week for you to enjoy sharing together. This one is ideal to further support your child with their comprehension skills.

Please return the communication folder every Monday morning with the reading diary and books so that they can be returned to you each Tuesday afternoon. We ask that children read each reading book over at least three days each week. Please make sure you clearly indicate in your reading diary that you have done this. There are also additional books shared on Oxford Owl so please see Evidence Me for details.

PE - Reception has PE on a Tuesday. Please send your child to school in their kit on these days. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
