Our Vision, Values and Ethos

The LHPSN School Vision and aims

At Lickey Hills Primary School and Nursery our vision is to create a school where every child achieves their potential through a relentless focus on ambitious teaching and learning.

Our aim is to ensure pupils at least meet the national standards and make progress from their varied starting points in reading, writing and maths as a by-product of curriculum experiences. Every parent/carer will be able to feel proud of their child’s achievements and will know exactly what these are. Every child will have the best possible start.

We aim to:

  • create an atmosphere of trust and mutual support in which all children can develop intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially and morally as individuals, members of groups and as members of the diverse multicultural society in which we live.

  • provide our children with experiences they need to develop into successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens

  • equip all children with positive attitudes, key skills, capabilities and knowledge to enable them to enjoy their childhood and serve as a foundation for further development. We encourage all children to be ‘good learners’, developing their individual talents to the full.

  • involve as fully as possible all those who have a part to play in our school partnerships to provide a stimulating environment in which effective learning can take place. As a school we will work together in order to achieve the highest standards possible for each individual member of our school.

We aim for all children to leave LHPSN with a sense of achievement and high self-esteem.

The LHPSN School Values

Respect

Kindness

Friendship

Self Belief

Resilience

Our school values are at the heart of everything we do at Lickey Hills Primary School and reflect the qualities that staff and governors want pupils to develop and express in their daily lives. The five values were chosen by children, staff and families.

"Lickey Hills Primary School and Nursery is a thriving and inclusive school situated in a  beautiful natural environment. It prides itself on creating a warm and nurturing  atmosphere where children can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. With a team  of dedicated staff and excellent facilities, the school aims to provide a well rounded  education for every student."

The British Values

The Government set out its definition of the British Values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy which were again reiterated in 2014. The DfE have reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” We reinforce these British values in the following ways:

  • Democracy:  The school vision, aims and ethos clearly state the importance we place on each member of the school community as an individual who is valued and respected by everyone else. Children are engaged in considering what it means to be British and understanding that being British is about living alongside others in a multicultural community.

Pupils are happy, polite and well mannered. They feel safe in school, know  that their opinions matter and their voice can influence decision making.

  • The Rule of Law: The importance of laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced at LHPSN School. The school motto is “Dream Together, Believe Together, Achieve Together” which underpins our aims and ambitions for everyone in the school community. There is a shared understanding of kindness and good behaviour which is promoted at all times and underpinned by the three simple but effective school rules which we encourage and expect all children to follow.

Follow instructions

Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself

Use positive language and actions

Pupils recognise there are sanctions when they are not followed.

  • Individual Liberty: Pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment.  Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms, and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through online safety and PSHE work. LHPSN actively promotes an anti-bullying culture which has been recognised through our work with the national Anti Bullying Alliance.

  • Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs: Pupils are encouraged to understand that all members of the school community treat each other with respect. We actively encourage visitors from a range of communities and organisations into school. Each year, the school supports a range of charities that the pupils can identify with. The school plans fundraising and awareness raising activities to support these charities.

"Leaders can clearly articulate the actions they need to put in place to further improve and strengthen the strong educational offer already in place.

The whole staff are effective and cohesive, working in the best interests of pupils. They are proud to be members of the Lickey Hills family."
