Welcome to Year 4!
This half term, we will look at the captivating story of 'Pugs of the Frozen North' by Philip Reeve and Sarah Mcintyre. We are using it as inspiration to write an adventure story about the main characters meeting a scary mythical creature. We will also continue our retrieval and inference skills by looking at different extracts from this book each week.
In history we will be exploring the topic of ‘ Ancient Romans' and their legacies. As the MTC takes place in Year 4, we will be practising all times tables on a daily basis becoming familiar with the more challenging ones! Please practise these using 'Times Tables Rock Stars' three times a week. In RE, we will be looking at Christianity and exploring the question ‘What is the Trinity? Why is it important to Christians?’ In music, we will be exploring the composer Gustav Holst.
In art we are blending and mixing colours and looking at the famous artist Kadinsky. We will be painting our own abstract art using different brush strokes and mixing colours. In Science, we will look at ‘Marvellous Matter’ to discover the difference between gases, liquids and solids.
Current spellings can be found online on the link to the right. Times tables are set on Wednesdays and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at home. New books will be sent out on a Friday and will be expected on a Wednesday with Reading Journals.
Please make sure you have your PE kits in school for our sporting activities. Both Year 4 classes will have PE on a Friday until further notice. Swimming will be on Wednesdays where the children also come dressed in their PE kits. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
