Welcome to Year 4!
This half term, we will look at the captivating story of 'Mama Miti’ by Donna Jo Napoli. We are using it as inspiration to write a biography about Wangari Maathai to inform people about her legacies. We will also continue our retrieval and inference skills by looking at different extracts from this book each week.
In Geography we will be exploring the topic of ‘Mountains and Volcanoes’ to look at how they are formed and distributed. As the MTC takes place in Year 4, we will be practicing all times tables on a daily basis becoming familiar with the more challenging ones! Please practise these using 'Times Tables Rock Stars' three times a week. In RE, we will be looking at Hinduism and exploring the question ‘What Hindus believe God is like?’ including a trip to a Hindu Mandir!
In Design and Technology, we are exploring simple circuits including: electrical components, circuit symbols and circuit diagrams. We will be designing, making and evaluating a Christmas Light Up Sign. In Science, we will look at ‘Sensational Sound’ to discover how sound is created through vibration and how it travels through different materials.
Spellings will be sent out on Mondays to practice at home before the tests on the following Monday. Current spellings can be found online on the link to the right. Times tables are set on Wednesdays and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at home. New books will be sent out on a Friday and will be expected on a Wednesday with Reading Journals.
Please make sure you have your PE kits in school for our sporting activities. Both Year 4 classes will have PE on a Friday until further notice. Swimming will be on Wednesdays where the children also come dressed in their PE kits. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
