Welcome to Year 4!
To begin Spring 2, In English pupils will be completing a writing in role narrative Our class text is 'The Great Kapok Tree' by Lynne Cherry. Children will be using VCOPS to identify key features and apply these to their own writing.
In Maths, we will be looking at:
Fractions and Decimals
In Science, we will be learning about digestion system with a focus on our teeth and taste.
In P.E. children will be learning new skills as they go swimming and choreograph a dance performance. Children will need to bring swimming costumes/shorts to school with them. Information has been sent accordingly.
In DT this term children will be learning about cooking and nutrition - We will be exploring what makes a healthy diet based on the Eatwell guide, before investigating what carbohydrates do and how food such as wheat is made into bread. This will culminate in us using our new found knowledge to make our own sausage rolls.
Important Information:
Current spellings can be found below. These will be updated each half-term. Please ensure that your child practices these as often as they can. Spelling tests will be on a Monday. Maths home learning is set on Wednesdays and due back by the following Monday. We also strongly encourage the children to read at home. New books will be sent out on a Friday and will be expected on a Wednesday with Reading Journals. Please ensure these are signed before new books are issued.
Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS):
Children in Year 4 will complete a Multiplation Times table check - known as MTC. We will be practising these at school, however it is important that your child also has access to practice these at home. Each child now has a log-in, which can be found at the front of their maths home learning books. Please encourage your child to log-in and practice at home.
3x e-praise points will be awarded weekly, if your child plays for 21 minutes per week (which is recommended).

Home - Times Tables Rock Stars
P.E. days for Year 4 will be on a Wednesday and Friday during the Autumn term. Children should come into school wearing P.E. kits on these days. Please make sure all earrings are removed or covered with tape before school on these days.
Swimming will start in Spring and continue through to the Summer term. Swimming will be on Wednesdays where the children also come dressed in their PE kits.
